How Lighting Changes the Atmosphere of an Event

Light is the most underestimated part of decoration. Here's how to use it.

Warm over bright

Warm light (around 2700K) flatters skin and fabric. Bright, cool overhead light flattens a room and makes even beautiful decor look ordinary.

Layer your light

Combine three layers: ambient light for the room, accent light on the stage and florals, and candlelight on tables. Layers create depth in photographs.

Plan for the evening

Many receptions begin in daylight and end after dark. Plan how the room will look at both times so the mood builds instead of dropping.

Mind the photographer

Share the lighting plan with your photographer and videographer so the focal points are lit the way they need.
